Gang members referred to some of their more wild and active or indeed mentally disturbed members as "loco". Later, the term and associated behavior became very popular with the Crips in particular and to a lesser extent with the Bloods. It was so common in Crip parlance that it was shortened to Loc and used as a suffix in some gang members' names.
