LOCS History
In the 1970s and 80s, Locs sunglasses were very popular among young people and defined the LA look. Influenced by the Latin American culture of Los Angeles and derived from the Spanish word “loco” (crazy), they were originally worn by cholos and later became popular among all gangsters in the LA area. Gang members referred to some of their more wild and active or indeed mentally disturbed members as "loco". Later, the term and associated behavior became very popular with the Crips in particular and to a lesser extent with the Bloods. It was so common in Crip parlance that it was shortened to Loc and used as a suffix in some gang members' names.
in the 1990s, many of the biggest rappers also wore Locs sunglasses, for example Eazy E, Snoop Dogg and many other well-known rappers. So the sunglasses became well known and worn in many different American gangster movies.
Today, Locs sunglasses are not only popular in California, but now also throughout the United States and the rest of the world. The brand now has a wider appeal across all consumer groups. One of the reasons for this popularity is the glorification of the LA Gangster profile through music, movies and of course the media. As gangster rappers were constantly in the media for negative press, they were seen wearing these hardcore glasses and the style quickly spread throughout the streets of Los Angeles! With the increasing popularity, it quickly helped them cross over into the mainstream and are now popular among famous artists and actors.
